For anyone who has to defend a conclusion.

Intelligence-cycle discipline is not a government-only concern. A competitive-intelligence team has the same failure modes as an analytic cell: fragmented tools, unverifiable snippets, common-name collisions, stale pages, AI-generated confidence, and reports that cannot be defended when a decision goes wrong.

Government and public sector.

OMAR supports requirements-driven research, source and purpose authorization, common-name disambiguation, reviewable identity resolution, audit, security markings, low and high deployment separation, and reproducible evidentiary handoff. It supports lawful investigations without normalizing opaque or unauthorized collection.

Current-event and geopolitical assessment

Vague lead to cited brief across news, official, social, and archive sources.

Planning, coverage ledger, capture, extraction, timeline and map, claim-level report.

Public-figure and organizational research in an official capacity

Common-name separation, reviewed relationships, first-party versus independent labeling.

Identity resolution, governed predicates, contradiction review.

Cyber threat and infrastructure context

CISA KEV, MITRE ATT&CK, DNS, RDAP, certificate transparency, routing context.

Structured-intelligence and infrastructure adapters, STIX ingestion, citation-gated reporting.

Crisis and hazard monitoring

Accepted area of interest to scheduled watch with honest no-change.

PostGIS areas of interest, watch missions, SMTP and webhook receipts.

Document and media exploitation

Preserve, process in isolation, review OCR and transcripts, cite back to the original.

Processor limits, EXIF review, offline transcription, reviewed translation.

Shift operations and continuity

Immutable handoff with acknowledgement and evidence resumption.

Roles, membership, handoff snapshots.

High-side analysis of low-side collection

Signed export, external approved transfer, verified import.

Transfer packages, high-side profile, no-egress policy.

Boundaries that matter in procurement: OMAR is not a cross-domain solution, does not claim IL-5 or IL-6 accreditation, does not perform classified multi-INT ingestion, and does not perform autonomous attribution. Accreditation, privacy review, records policy, source contracts, penetration testing, and key ceremony remain the deploying organization's obligations.

Commercial and competitive intelligence.

Commercial open-source intelligence is the same discipline pointed at markets: competitors, suppliers, customers, regulators, products, prices, capacity, hiring, litigation, and sentiment. A board asks “where did this number come from?” and somebody has to answer.

Retail and consumer

Competitor assortment and pricing changes, store openings and closures, promotional cadence, recall notices, supplier disclosures.

Sitemap and approved-URL capture to preserve product and policy pages; watch missions on competitor sites; a timeline of dated changes; a cited brief for merchandising decisions.

Automotive

Model announcements, recall and regulatory filings, supplier relationships, plant capacity changes, battery partnerships, executive moves.

News and official-source discovery; governed partner, operates, and works-for assertions with exact spans; identity resolution across similarly named suppliers; contradiction review when outlets disagree.

Textiles and apparel

Sourcing-country shifts, mill and factory relationships, sustainability and labor claims, trade-policy changes, brand collaborations.

Document exploitation of sustainability reports and filings; first-party versus independent labeling of corporate claims; area monitoring for producing regions.

Metals and mining

Project permits, production guidance, offtake agreements, price-relevant disruptions, sanctions exposure of counterparties.

Structured and official-source capture; geospatial areas around sites; watch missions with change thresholds; signed transfer of a case to a separately governed team.

Manufacturing and industrial

Competitor capacity and capex, patent and product launches, supply-chain incidents, tariff and standards changes, key-account movements.

Infrastructure enrichment for supplier domains; sitemap inventory of competitor documentation; graph of accepted organizational relationships; shift handoff between regional teams.

Financial services, insurance, and corporate security

Third-party due diligence, executive protection, fraud research, insider-risk support, supply-chain risk.

Common-name disambiguation; retention with legal hold; an audit trail per decision; licensed feeds as one governed source among public and internal evidence.

Technology and telecommunications

Product and API changes, outage and incident reporting, vulnerability exposure of vendors, hiring signals, standards activity.

CISA KEV, MITRE ATT&CK, DNS, RDAP, certificate transparency; forum and social collection; archived-page comparison over time.

What a search-and-slides workflow cannot give you.

A defensible number
A margin estimate, a capacity figure, or a launch date in a brief resolves to a preserved page with a hash and a dated retrieval. When the page changes or disappears, the evidence remains.
Honest coverage
The brief says which sources were searched, which were unavailable, and where the analyst stopped. The difference between “we found no evidence of X” and “X does not exist.”
Entity discipline
Companies, subsidiaries, brands, and executives with similar names stay separate until an analyst decides otherwise, and the decision is reversible.
Monitoring that means something
A watch on a competitor's site reports a real change with the added and removed records, or an honest no-change, never a fabricated alert.
Institutional memory
When the analyst leaves, the case retains what was known, when, from where, what was rejected, and why the conclusion changed.
Provider optionality
Licensed feeds, paid databases, and internal documents enter as governed sources under their contracts. Swapping a vendor does not lose the case record.
AI without the liability
Model-assisted expansion, extraction, and translation speed the work, but nothing a model wrote becomes a claim without an analyst's decision and an exact citation.

OMAR collects only public and authorized material under the terms of each source. Those boundaries are a selling point to general counsel, not an apology.
